My Story
From an early age I felt naturally inclined towards asking deep philosophical questions regarding life and the living world. I remember sensing that something just didn’t feel right regarding the “real world” I was being conditioned into.

My desire for meaning and a more exciting life led me to join the Marine Corps at the age of eighteen. It was at that time during a deployment to Iraq that an experience changed my life and set the changes in motion that would lead me on a journey that was greater than the one I was seeking through war.

The experience caused me to reflect deeply about myself and the person I thought I was. Over the next twelve years I became deeply involved with trying to understand how I came to be the person I was, along with my past romantic relationships and why they failed. During this time, I subsequently traveled across the globe, meeting various friends and mentors, while reading voraciously, studying as much religion, philosophy, and psychology I could find.

Ultimately it was the inner journey that proved to be the most valuable and healing; a process that involved finding wisdom through walking in the direction of my fears and of deconstructing my conditionings in a way that brought me back to my body, and to an individual sense of self that was integrated in a capacity that allowed for greater joy, intimacy, and peace.
My Experience
I have a Master’s degree in counseling psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute, and a Bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the University at Buffalo. Originally, I trained to be a therapist, gaining experience in grief counseling and other modalities. Eventually I left the counseling world as a result of its limitations, shortsightedness, and lack of a holistic approach to healing.
Although I value my education, training, and the many things I’ve learned from books, the truth is that I’ve learned much more from observing my thoughts, actions, and habits, in the moment, while being honest about my intentions, and trying to fully understand my motivations.
My approach is greatly informed by psychology, philosophy, & yoga, as well as by other eastern and western philosophies and religions. I am a published author, and history teacher, as well as a certified yoga instructor who has spent time studying tai chi, chi gong, and the Japanese tea ceremony. I have an honorable discharge from the United States Marine Corps. In my spare time, you’ll find me reading, writing, traveling, cooking, drinking tea, meditating, riding horses, and spending time in nature, marveling at the beauty and wonder that is all around us.
